Passo delle Mule

2023

A pure Nero d’Avola, Passo delle Mule comes from the grapes of the Suor Marchesa Estate, inland in southern Sicily.

Here, soil, climate and good altitude form the perfect mix for the production of this enveloping wine, which shows softness while still having a remarkable freshness on the palate.

Details

climate

The 2023 vintage was characterized by a winter with little rainfall, with a cool and humid spring. Hot, dry and breezy summer with strong temperature variations between day and night.

Harvest

The harvest took place in the first half of October

Vinification and Ageing

The destemmed grapes ferment at a controlled temperature in stainless steel. After racking, the aging process begins, divided between concrete tanks and first- and second-passage oak barriques for at least 8 months. The wine then undergoes bottle aging for at least two months before release.

Tasting Notes & Pairings

Vibrant red in colour.

Intense and enveloping bouquet, with predominating fruity notes of marasca cherry, raspberry and plum, followed by more complex spice and vanilla notes.

It is rich, ample and velvety on the palate, with a full body and a persistent aroma, with austere but pleasant tannins.

It is excellent with main courses of red meat and grilled meats, and is also ideal with mature cheeses. It can also be uncorked on the spot, provided that large glasses are being used.
