Vincenzo Florio Jr. upheld the family traditions with passion, and added to new achievements to them. Forever an automobile enthusiast, Vincenzo Jr. took part as a driver in a number of sports car races, and in 1906 decided to combine this love with his business acumen by creating the first automobile race in Sicily, the legendary Targa Florio. Only the genius of a Florio could have conceived a race of international interest on a circuit as tough as the Mondonie. This extraordinary event brought personalities to Sicily from all over the old continent, and was an outstanding success with the public thanks to the 30 cars which took part and the artists Vincenzo called on to create the prize and the advertising campaign. A businessman, but above all a lover of life and of great challenges, Vincenzo Jr. kept the Florio’s avant-garde spirit alive and well.
