Is it always necessary to uncork a bottle of wine to let it breathe to enjoy it at its best? In effect, there is no precise rule; the decision when to uncork depends on the type of wine. A young wine or a white wine, especially if it is sparkling like Duca Brut, can generally be opened also just before being drunk and it still expresses itself at its best, while a white wine matured in barriques, such as Bianca di Valguarnera, definitely needs to be uncorked a couple of hours before to develop perfectly. On the other hand, Duca Enrico, a great long-lived red that has matured for a long time in the bottle, should be treated differently and should be uncorked several hours before. The choice of the perfect moment to uncork is not a minor detail as it ensures the authenticity of the wine you are drinking…..don’t forget it!
