In 1824, Giuseppe Alliata di Villafranca (1784 – 1844), Prince of the Holy Roman Empire, Grandee of Spain, first Duke of Salaparuta and husband of Agata Valguarnera, princess of Valguarnera, bottled Corvo White for the first time at Casteldaccia, and with just 5.000 bottles so began the long and fascinating history of Corvo wines. An enthusiastic wine connoisseur, at first Giuseppe earmarked the wine he produced for official lunches and ceremonies for his illustrious guests, diplomats, ambassadors, princes and noblewomen from all over the world who frequented the Alliata’s sumptuous palazzo, Villa Valguarnera. The business started by Giuseppe was carried on by his son, Edoardo Alliata and his descendants, and reached its peak with Enrico Alliata, who followed in his predecessors’ footsteps and continued to invest and improve the family company.
